Cinema is one of the industries artificial intelligence is changing fastest. Tools that were out of reach for independent creators not long ago now let a single person make a short film, an animation or a visual story. For a community full of storytellers — and the Bitcoin world is exactly that — it's an enormous opportunity. Bitcoin FilmFest decided to take it seriously.
🎬 Eight hours of AI workshops
Beyond the contest, workshops on various aspects of AI filmmaking ran throughout the festival — around eight hours of sessions in total, attended by close to 25 people. Topics covered image generation, sound generation, scriptwriting and the entire film-production cycle. More and more bitcoiners are trying their hand at telling stories with these tools — and getting better at it.
🏆 The "Future of Money, Money of the Future" contest
At the heart of this part of the programme is the contest for AI-assisted films. This year a main prize was awarded: 1.5 million satoshi went to a creator working under the name Naritamoto, a filmmaker from the UK who has been experimenting with AI video since the technology's early days. The audience chose the winner from a selection of shorts. The total pool was 2.5 million satoshi, and the remainder rolls over to next year.
The organizers don't hide that the contest launched a little too early and was announced a little too late. But the direction is clear: in 2027 the AI film contest will return — probably with a slightly different theme, a larger pool and, hopefully, a circle of new sponsors. Details will follow later.
⚖️ Threat or opportunity? A candid take
Plenty of fears have grown up around AI in art. The festival's stance, though, is optimistic. AI certainly increases creative power and makes it easier for bitcoiners to make films — and so to tell their own stories. At the same time, authenticity remains one of the core values of Bitcoin culture.
It's precisely this tension between the two — the power of the tool and the value of the human hand — that makes the subject so interesting. Bitcoin and AI are two of the most powerful technologies of our time, and their collision on one festival stage was among this edition's most electrifying threads.
