The through-line: financial exclusion. Refugees, orphans, and people without formal addresses or government ID cannot access banks. Bitcoin "doesn't recognize if you're poor or rich, what color your skin is, or whether you have ID." Chainalysis recorded $205 billion in on-chain value across Sub-Saharan Africa (mid-2025), up 52% YoY—third-fastest regional growth globally. Remittance fees (9% via traditional channels, cents on Lightning) and currency instability drive adoption.
